Member PandaPawPaw Posted November 15, 2023 Member Share Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) So I thought I'd rewatch this series from episode one as I haven't seen it since I was a kid and loved it back then. 4 episodes in and I'm struggling to get through each ep. They're rather boring and dated. I remember them being better.................... Maybe because it's at the beginning, it's a bit rough so hopefully it gets better. It is cool to see how the live action 1990 movie adapted things like April meeting the turtles for the first time and Splinters backstory. They did a good job with that. Still better than Mutant Mayhem. Edited November 15, 2023 by PandaPawPaw
Member DarthKato Posted November 16, 2023 Member Share Posted November 16, 2023 Yeah, I tried to rewatch it and it's not as good as I remember it being. It still holds a special place in my heart though. Now, the 2003 version is a masterpiece. I highly recommend checking it out.
Member PandaPawPaw Posted November 16, 2023 Author Member Share Posted November 16, 2023 I watched the TMNT anime recently and the shredder redesign sucked ass! But the everything else was pretty much like the US version just better drawn. April has a nice Anime look.
Member PandaPawPaw Posted November 21, 2023 Author Member Share Posted November 21, 2023 On season 2 and it's gotten better. I love James Avery's voice as Shredder. It's perfect!
Member Agent U Posted December 13, 2023 Member Share Posted December 13, 2023 I remember wondering why at some point Michaelangelo substituted a rope for his iconic nunchakus. Only found out about the censorship much later.
Member J.J. Hayden Posted December 13, 2023 Member Share Posted December 13, 2023 @Agent U LOL, it was also changed to HERO turtles in the UK, though I don't remember it being that way, I always remember calling it Ninja Turtles. Like many things from when you were a kid, you remember it being a lot better. I think people remember the intro animation (and the song) that is awesome and that's what we remember the whole show being like. @PandaPawPaw Doesn't get much better than Uncle Phil, though I believe Jim Cummings did the voice of Shredder on a few occasions too.

I've found the voices change around quite a bit during seasons. I read it had something to do with how fast the eps were being made and the availability of the voice actors. Member Agent U Posted December 15, 2023 Member Share Posted December 15, 2023 I remember there was a Japanese anime where one main character had like 3-4 difference voice actors over the run of the series. At one point, just as another voice actor stepped in, the character even jested that he felt he was catching a cold and his voice would likely change again as a result 😅

I'm on S3 and Casey has now been introduced but why does he sound like Clint Eastwood! He sounds so stupid! Member PandaPawPaw Posted January 22 Author Member Share Posted January 22 On S6 ep9 (Nightmare in the Lair) and a Freddy Krueger rip off character appears. Also Raph is a right sarky git. Always dropping useless shit at the worst times! If I was Leo, I'd turtle slap the ninja out of him!

Member PandaPawPaw Posted February 6 Author Member Share Posted February 6 I had no idea Tokka and Rahzar were actual TMNT characters. I thought they were made up for TMNT2. They feature in S07E24.

Member PandaPawPaw Posted February 11 Author Member Share Posted February 11 (edited) On season 10 and I really am finding it boring. S8-9 where so meh. The turtles look a bit better in some areas but I dislike the green around the eyes. I think a mixture of the two styles would of worked better though I get they were going for a more grown up look/feel. Also the inclusion of this Carter guy sucks! He's annoying. No Shredder/Krang/Bebop/Rocksteady really hurt it as I thought they were far more interesting than what S8-S10 offer. I think the over mutation idea is cool but not really executed well. Member Agent U Posted February 11 Member Share Posted February 11 (edited) It had that many seasons? It's always difficult to say with cartoons, since as a child we didn't pay much attention to that, and as far as I remember we tended to get new episodes almost continuously. Like Dragon Ball Z is split into seasons as well, at least in the US, but I've got no clue what is which, because we had the entirety of DB and DBZ aired with no interruptions. I've got four eps left and I can't wait till it's over! Was the second series to DB called Dragon Ball Z Kai?

For commercial purposes, they split Z into seasons, which seem to overlap somewhat with the in-series sagas: https://www.amazon.com/Dragonball-Complete-Seasons-sets-Sets/dp/B008CSUU0C
Member PandaPawPaw Posted February 18 Author Member Share Posted February 18 (edited) So I finished the whole damn thing and will probably never revisit it again. The first maybe 3-5 series were OK but then it's just repetitive stuff. S8-S10 are such a chore to get through and I was pretty bored. I enjoyed the 2 episode Anime way more that this whole series. I'm going to try the 2003 series and the others and see how they fair. Edited February 18 by PandaPawPaw
