He dosent seem to get mentioned too much, but I think Danny Lee is pretty underrated. He seemed to be the go to guy for the crazy Shaw films and without a doubt gave us four of the most entertaining and amusing movies :  The Oily Maniac, The Battle Wizard, Super Inframan ( a classic ) and The Mighty Peking Man . I think he had a pretty cool character in All Men Are Brothers also . I read that he mainly did Cop films and comedies after Shaw , I need to check out some of those .  I just wanted to give Danny his props ! Any other fans ?

Yes! Seeing his name in the cast is always good news. Regarding Shaw movies, he also has a great role as one of Chang Cheh's SAVAGE FIVE. For post Shaw era, definitely  check out John Woo's THE KILLER!

I just saw on hkmdb that he won Best Actor HK Film Award and Golden Horse Award for LAW WITH TWO PHASES, I have to watch that one.

Love Danny and love pretty much anything he cranked out of the cop movie conveyorbelt in the 80's and 90's.

These are his best (as a lead) in my opinion.

LAW WITH TWO PHASES – 1984

COP OF THE TOWN – 1985

THE LAW ENFORCER – 1986

ROAD WARRIORS – 1987

NO COMPROMISE – 1988

FINAL JUSTICE – 1988

THE BIG SCORE – 1990

TIGER ON BEAT 2 – 1990

BLUE LIGHTNING – 1991

RED SHIELD – 1991

ORGANIZED CRIME AND TRIAD BUREAU – 1994

ASIAN CONNECTION – 1995

CITY COP – 1995

It's always good to see him in a movie.

Though I didn't like very much this movie, he had some good fights in Bruce Lee and I.

And he also plays a cop in Shark Busters.

The name rings a bell but I don't think I've actually seen a movie of his. At least none of the ones listed here.

The Killer & City on Fire w/Chow

Just Heroes?

Dr. Lamb?

I agree  with you about Bruce Lee and I, even though it was a trashy movie Danny did a pretty good job at playing Bruce and wasn't bad in the fight scenes(especially the karate dojo fight), the best he's ever looked performing martial arts.

I've watched Asian Connection (1995) a while ago and I have to say I hope his other cop movies are better. Maybe I was expecting too much being that Yuen Tak handled the action. Btw, AC is the only movie Yuen Tak directed.

This is something I found out only recently: Danny Lee founded Magnum Films Limited (think it was in 1987.), production company behind Asian Connection, Just Heroes and The Untold Story 2.

Don't forget his "cop" role in The Untold Story. I thought he was hilarious as the lead inspector with his bevy of working gals. :laugh

I really enjoyed Law with Two Phases. I know a blu ray was recently released but not sure if it's just an upscale or true HD? I would double dip if it's a clear upgrade over the Joy Sales dvd.

While not one of his classics, I really dig it and think the gunplay action is just fine. Love the train finale too. Not sure what you were expecting here.

To be honest I don't know man. I wasn't aware Danny Lee had a string of cop flicks, this was my first, so I had nothing to compare AC to. For me it felt like Tak and Lam tried to make a buddy comedy but failed at making it funny; the fact their movie is uneven and has no real plot is less of a problem in my eyes. I liked the Taipei setting, it gives the movie a different vibe, but when it comes to action, it's more about car stunts than gunplay and fighting. With Blackie Ko on board, I expected him handling the vehicle action, but seems that's not the case. Maybe I was just expecting more from Yuen Tak, you could call me a fan, especially after watching Saviour of the Soul (1991), but what he delivered here left me kinda cold.

Anyway, I've seen the list of Lee's cop films you posted and I'm definitely planning on tracking down those movies, especially Law with Two Phases, so we'll see if the other ones are better as I hoped or should I give Asian Connection another chance. :)

If you're going for action, The Law Enforcer, Final Justice and Red Shield are your best bets. Though these are cop movies, not necessarily action films as such, even though they have action in them.

I'll be sure to check those out, thanks for these recommendations @TibetanWhiteCrane :bs_martialgreeting:

Danny Lee usually played the cool character, dependable side kick or bad ass stoic cop undaunted in his mission to bring down local triads but I remember being pleasantly surprised at his role in Herman Yau's Walk In. He plays a mentally challenged character and does it pretty convincingly. The movie mixes "body switching" supernatural comedic elements with a heroic brotherhood gunfu storyline but unfortunately, it sounds better than it plays out as the action is a little too sparse for my liking. But still might be worth checking out to see another side of Danny Lee's acting abilities.

Hey, he goes bananas in Killers on Wheels as well. Basically a loose remake of Straw Dogs. Very well known actor in HK, and huge police booster. From what I understand he was also a well regarded Judoka.

Yep that's a good one. Very entertaining and quite sleazy and exploitative too. I can also vouch for your custom as I own a copy.

Blue Lightening is a good flick, and he plays a drunk cop, very different from his usual squeaky clean roles at the time. He has a small role at the end of Tragic Hero which is a great Chow Yung Fat, Andy Lau god of guns that should be in any collection.

Eight Escorts was a good small company film with all the good actors usually seen in the genre.

Always glad when he shows up in a movie.

I first took notice of Danny Lee in "The Killer", even though I saw a couple of his Shaw Brothers films.  This remains my favorite HK film and I always recommend it to friends interested in getting into "foreign films."

I have this poster somewhere, but not in such pristine condition.

When talking about this peculiar movie in his book, Wong Jing said: "It's my most evil drama but it's also my blackest comedy."

The scene where Jing escapes from the closet was inspired by MacGyver. The family home invasion scene was inspired by the one in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. The romantic car chase in The Big Score was recreated for Mission: Impossible 2. The Big Score also influenced the Season 3 premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. by having a criminal who thinks he's escaped from the police but finds out that every nearby seated passenger are actually undercover operatives. The episode is titled Laws of Nature.
