Member chen lung Posted August 27, 2008 Member Share Posted August 27, 2008 'The Tournament' is a little bit longer than the Joy Sales VCD in 2 places (at least) .
Member spannick Posted September 4, 2008 Author Member Share Posted September 4, 2008 also finally in the last Stages is THE AVENGER aka QUEEN BOXER with Judy Lee. http://www.ofdb.de/film/14077,Kung-Fu---Die-Karateteufel we got a German Print in 2.35 (16:9) non-restored, but looking quite okay. then the Version from a Celestial Channel (2.35 4:3, framecuts as usual, this will be used to insert the missing footage). Audio is German and english at the Moment. the Mandarin Audio from the Celestial Crap can't be used thanks to the framecuts. German and US Trailer are already here or coming any moment. Original english Title Sequence with wonderful use of SHAFT Theme here:
Guest Markgway
Would it not just be easier to use the Mandarin version from Celestial as the basis - assuming it's uncut? Can be upconverted from 4:3 to 16:9 without much resolution loss. Thus the audio and image would be in-sync. German and English (if your company is bothered) subtitles can be included. Seems a better way of preserving the movie than a cut 'n' paste job without the original language.
Member spannick Posted September 4, 2008 Author Member Share Posted September 4, 2008 will you pay for a package Deal for some 10-20 Movies which won't make back their Money? i didn't think so. Yes, it's such a nice idea seeing it written down. But the reality is nothing like written Words sadly. Also, i'd rather have a more shoddy-looking print than ANY Celestial Framecut-Mess, which is simple Movie-destruction for poor Greed. Member thundered mantis Posted September 5, 2008 Member Share Posted September 5, 2008 The other title on The Tournament double feature, is it Carter Wong´s and Phillip Ko´s film 8 Masters?
Member spannick Posted September 5, 2008 Author Member Share Posted September 5, 2008 8 Masters, yes. German Cinema Print. and to everyone who think by writing a lot there'll be lot of changes here's a small statement i found: "If I ran my business by what the message-boards wanted, I would have been out of the business." Guest Markgway
will you pay for a package Deal for some 10-20 Movies which won't make back their Money? i didn't think so. Is that aimed at me? Not sure I understand your meaning? Why would using Celestial masters as the basis (for the whole film) instead of in part (inserted scenes) mean you lose money? Also I was only referring to THE AVENGER - not an entire package of movies. If your comment wasn't aimed at me - ignore the above. Yes, it's such a nice idea seeing it written down. But the reality is nothing like written Words sadly. What would the problem(s) be? Also, i'd rather have a more shoddy-looking print than ANY Celestial Framecut-Mess, which is simple Movie-destruction for poor Greed. I don't like the idea of frame cuts, but I can't say I've ever noticed when they've occured. Whereas a poorer print is always evident (and the discrepancy in quality will be noticeable). And if you're using a Celestial master for some scenes, then these will be frame cut regardless. So there's no escaping it. What I'm saying is would it not be better to be consistent with the source material?

(Joe Quesada) Isn't that kinda like saying "f**k you"? It's the people who write on message boards that keep you guys in business. You don't have to accept every suggestion, but you should at least listen and consider.
Member The Running Man Posted September 5, 2008 Member Share Posted September 5, 2008 I ordered the Once Upon a Time in China and America and The Tournament DVDs from the German amazon site about a week ago but nothing has been sent out yet. Why?
Member Killer Meteor Posted September 6, 2008 Member Share Posted September 6, 2008 Regarding Avenger, assuming there are no legal or financial hassles, why not have the German/English hybrid print AND the Celestial Mandarin one on the DVD?
Member spannick Posted September 6, 2008 Author Member Share Posted September 6, 2008 possible, as the subs are burnt-in anyway. it's just not in 1a Quality, as it's from VHS. but i'll consider it in any case.

Guest Markgway
Genuine shock!! I can't believe you paid a three-figure sum (in pounds no less) for an old VHS of a shockingly bad movie. Just buy the DVD if you must, dude! And they reckon there's a credit crunch going on...?? Actually, what I originally meant was I can't believe anyone is still using VHS as a source format. DVD-Recorders have been invented! Even I have one - and I'm a poor tech-challenged idiot! lol
Member spannick Posted September 7, 2008 Author Member Share Posted September 7, 2008 if you would be so kind to link to us to an uncut LIFE OF NINJA DVD in 2.35 without subs on the Picture i'll buy it gladly.
Member HAZ Posted September 7, 2008 Member Share Posted September 7, 2008 Is this not the same movie? http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID.533171/qx/details.htm Maybe its worth picking up? I see this version is subbed.
Member spannick Posted September 7, 2008 Author Member Share Posted September 7, 2008 it's not what i want. it's cut and has Original Subs on the Print.
Guest Markgway
Well, the JP tape is Eng dubbed with JP subs on the image, so that's presumably worse than burnt English subs, lol. It's more the amount of money than the buying of a VHS. I still own a couple of VHS myself, but I wouldn't pay a three-figure sum for them, lol. The version I saw was uncut, but cropped. What are the 6 secs cut from the letterboxed Crash release, which regardless seems like a better option with original Mandarin language and Eng subs?
