Member Koravec Posted June 11, 2024 Member Posted June 11, 2024 Just watched a sci fi movie on netflix called Advantageous, what a depressing story though man. If you like Black Mirror a lot Id say check this out, could practically be an episode of that show. A bit inspiring how little extravagant scenes or many actors were used, goes to show how good movies can be made with pretty little. Quote
Member ShawAngela Posted June 13, 2024 Member Posted June 13, 2024 I watched Hannie Caulder this evening. 88 Films did a great job releasing this western, and Raquel Welch was excellent in it. I recommend it. Quote
Member PandaPawPaw Posted June 13, 2024 Member Posted June 13, 2024 (edited) Dead Presidents (1995) - "A Vietnam vet adjusts to life after the war while trying to support his family, but the chance of a better life may involve crime and bloodshed." OK movie with good acting and story. What Jennifer Did - (2024) "When Jennifer Pan calls 911 to report that her parents have been shot, she becomes the primary focus of a captivating criminal case." A crazy story and what actually happened and why is really shocking! Another Body: My Ai Porn Nightmare (2024) - "A Storyville documentary that follows a college student's investigation after she discovers that her face has been digitally altered to appear in online hardcore porn videos." While A.I can be used for good, some twats decide to abuse that tech and cause serious trouble to others. A good eye opening doc. Burning Sun: Exposing the Secret K-pop Chat Groups (2024) - "In South Korea, K-pop stars have fame, fortune and millions of female fans. But some led a double life, inhabiting a hidden world where videos of women being drugged, raped and humiliated were shared. This film tells the story of the female journalists who took on the task of investigating the secret chat groups of prominent K-pop stars - and paid a high personal price." Solid doc exposing some of the scum of K-pop. Some really sick things happen and the corruptness of the police is fucking shocking! K-pop stans also suck ass! Challengers (2024) - "Tashi, a former tennis prodigy turned coach, turned her husband into a champion. But to overcome a losing streak, he needs to face his ex-best friend and Tashi's ex-boyfriend" Weird movie that I didn't hate but it does go on a bit and I'm not sure what the whole point of the movie was. Superbad (2007) - "Two co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry." One of the few teen flicks I've not seen due to not being a fan of either Jonah Hill and Michael Cera but I gave it a try and yeah it sucked. The character Fogell got on my nerves and I wanted to punch him! Not particularly funny either. The stuff with Seth Rogan is just painful! Edited June 13, 2024 by PandaPawPaw Quote

Member saltysam Posted June 22, 2024 Member Posted June 22, 2024 Agent Recon Absolutely speechless at how mind numbingly bad this one is. Seems to be a vanity project for someone called Derek Ting.who writes, directs and stars. Marc Singer and poor Chuck Norris who is actually asleep for most of the running time deserve far better than this. Embarrassing for them both, more so Chuck, at 83 he can't need the money. The dismal plot is about some alien energy around a military base. Quote
Member PandaPawPaw Posted June 22, 2024 Member Posted June 22, 2024 Heathers (2018) - "TV version of the 1988 black comedy "Heathers," in which an outcast student plots to kill the cool kids." I wasn't expecting much but yeah it sucked ass! Just boring garbage with dull/annoying characters. Abigail (2024) - "After a group of criminals kidnap the ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, they retreat to an isolated mansion, unaware that they're locked inside with no normal little girl." I enjoyed this a lot! Good story and the gore is great! The little girl was especially great in her role and really made the movie! A Hole in the Head (1998) - "A documentary about people who drill dime-sized holes in their foreheads in an effort to improve health and mental capacity" I've always been fascinated with Trepanation/Trepanning and this doc was interesting and informative. I Saw the TV Glow (2024) "Two teenagers bond over their love of a supernatural TV show, but it is mysteriously cancelled." BORING! Trim Season (2023) - "A group of young people go to a remote marijuana farm where they hope to make quick cash. But, they discover the location's dark secrets and now must try to escape the mountain on which they are trapped." Average horror flick with OK acting but meh story. From Dreams to Tragedy: The Fire that Shook Brazilian Football (2024) - "Careers of young Ninho do Urubu fire survivors are followed as families continue seeking justice three years after the tragedy." Really sad story of young footballers reaching their dream to play for a club only to meet a terrible tragedy. The football club itself is headed by greedy and uncaring fuckers who give no shits about anything including the families of the dead and make no effort to compensate them. The Truth vs. Alex Jones (2024) - "Centers on families of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting. They take Alex Jones, a conspiracy theorist, to court for spreading lies about the event being a hoax." I know Jones is a fuckwad but this doc made my blood boil! How he and his cronies can spread utter lies and make stupid conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook shooting is horrendous! The people supporting him and his ilk are just as bad and I felt so sorry for the families of the kids that were killed and having to fight that fat fuck with him calling them liars! Why the fuck would they lie about something like that!? Quote
Member ChillyChong Posted June 27, 2024 Member Posted June 27, 2024 Fast and Furious 8. I don`t remember did I like #7 more but this was bit weak. Importance of cars seems to be decreasing although they are well featured in 1 big scene in middle of flick. Quite average action move and over 2 hours felt bit too long. However villain Cipher (Charlize Theron) is really cool, definitely highlight of the movie. I IMDBd her and she is also in FF9&X so there is something to look forward when one year decide to watch them. Quote
Member PandaPawPaw Posted June 28, 2024 Member Posted June 28, 2024 Scout's Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America (2023) - "Survivors, whistle-blowers and experts recount the Boy Scouts of America's decades long cover-up of sexual abuse cases and its heartbreaking impact." Sad stories of how many children were abused by members of the Boy Scouts though tbh I'm not surprised that this type of stuff happened. I never trusted these types of organisations. Blue City (1986) - "A drifter returns to his Florida hometown only to discover that his father, the local mayor, was mysteriously murdered during his absence. Vowing to find the killer and avenge his father's death, he starts his own investigation." Boring and forgettable trash. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) - "When the manic Dr. Robotnik returns to Earth with a new ally, Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic and his new friend Tails is all that stands in their way." Not bad and I love Tails! His voice acting and character is so cute! Carey as Robotnik works really well and the story is OK too. Some of the humans eye levels while looking at CGI characters is really off at times! Quote

Member Drunken Monk Posted June 28, 2024 Member Posted June 28, 2024 Challengers (2024) - Thoroughly enjoyed this one. It's nice to see Zendaya do something a little different and the whole "tennis = sex" metaphor isn't overly done or overtly sexualized. The story is fantastic and never too on the nose. One of the best dramas of the year. Grade: A I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Jesus Christ. A befuddling, baffling story that means well but seems to specifically aim over its audience's head. I consider myself a fairly intelligent man and I didn't understand a fair chunk of this one. It's a great story about gender identification and the dymorphia that comes with being trans but it seems to go far beyond hitting the nail on the head and wanders out into avant-garde terriroty. Brigette Lundy-Paine's monologue towards the end went on forever. Not a garbage film, but one tha takes a lot of rewatching, I imagine. Grade: D+ The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) - An unbelievably good and non-traditional horror that slowly constricts around its audinece like a snake. Scary and interesting. Great stuff. Grade: A Divergent (2014) - Dystopian future, people are poor, the government is bad. Blah, blah, blah. We've seen it all before. Part Hunger Games, part Maze Runner. It's mildly entertaining but little more. Grade: C- Pretty in Pink (1986) - Justice for Duckie! I adored this film. ADORED it. A good natured, cross-section of 80's high school life. Endearing, funny and Jon Cryer's musical number is one of the brest musical scenes ever committed to film. Grade: A Love & Basketball (2000) - I mdon't know why this isn't talked about more. Possibly the best black romance film ever made. It's a tough, beautiful journey with the actors bringing out their A game. Sanaa Lathan is a tour de force. Love it. Grade: A- Narc (2002) - This one really gets under the fingernails. As gritty as cop thrillers come. Jason Patric and Ray Liotta put on a master class and that twist really got me. A dingy, tense crime film that's one of Joe Carnahan's best. Grade: B+ Goodbye, Dragon Inn (2003) - In my top five greatest films of all time. In my top three, even. A beautiful haunting of a film that explores the microcosm of movie theaters ad their attachment to the huma experience. As hilarious as it is sad. A monumental piece of film making. Grade: A+ Quote

Member ChillyChong Posted July 10, 2024 Member Posted July 10, 2024 Gotham. I had all 5 seasons waiting. did not like LOT, arrow was OK. Supergirl or superman found never interesting and some batman movies are garbage. Even as friend whose taste is usually accetable and bought those back then by his recommendation was never that interested to watch. wish i had, show really rocks. Was completely surprised how dark and violent it is compared to other DCs. Good storyline too. Quote
Member PandaPawPaw Posted July 10, 2024 Member Posted July 10, 2024 The Final: Attack on Wembley (2024) - "A dramatic England penalty defeat to Italy and chaos as thousands of un-ticketed fans attempted to storm Wembley Stadium." I remember hearing about this in the news and it is really shocking stuff! The two guys in the doc who had been part of all the chaos came across as twats saying they don't regret what they did! Some footie fans are utter bellends. The Cannibal in the Jungle (2015) - "The two-hour scripted feature THE CANNIBAL IN THE JUNGLE follows the story of an American scientist who was convicted of killing and cannibalizing two colleagues in the jungles of Flores, Indonesia in 1977." This was silly tosh and just cheesy as heck! Brats (2024) - "Centers on 1980s films starring the 'Brat Pack' and their profound impact on the young stars' lives." Somewhat interesting doc by Andrew McCarthy. Some of the audio is not great and it does go on a bit. Seeing Andrew trying to get both Molly Ringwald and Judd Nelson to appear in it who both declined was a bit of a let down. It sounds way more interesting than it turned out to be. TikTok Star Murders (2024) - "TikTok creator Ali Abulaban and his beautiful wife Ana seem like they have it all, but behind the picture-perfect life portrayed online is a relationship filled with domestic violence that falls apart when the abuse takes a deadly turn." Crazy how people change as they get more popular and controlling. His wife was nice and didn't deserve what happened to her. Ali is a complete loser! Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael (1990) - "A small town prepares for the homecoming of superstar Roxy Carmichael, as does a young outsider, who believes Roxy is her mother." This turned out to be rather dull and boring. I wasn't expecting much but I kept zoning out of it. Quote
